Liero Xtreme (often called LieroX or Liero Extreme) is a computer game. It is an unofficial sequel to Liero. It features netplay, computer AI opponents and fully customizable weapons, levels and characters. It is the most popular of the Liero clones and it's easy to find someone to play with over the internet. Liero Xtreme was created by Jason 'JasonB' Boettcher, an Australian programmer. It is written in C++.
[edit] Future Projects
On February 14, 2006, JasonB stopped the LieroX development for good. The last version he released was 0.62b, which had many new features, but suffered from crashes and various errors. Before leaving the community, he released the source code of an older version 0.55b under a zlib license. The project is still going on with Rye as the developer of LXE (Liero Extreme Enhanced), Dark Charlie as the developer of LX Pro (Liero Xtreme Professional) and currently with help of Albert Zeyer (with a port to Linux/Unix) on OpenLieroX.
Depending on version, gameplay includes Free-for-all Deathmatch, Team Free-for-all Deathmatch, and Last Man Standing game types. Anyone can create their own weapons, mods, levels and skins, which can be downloaded and played both locally and on the internet. Liero Xtreme has a strong community of dedicated players, and also players who work on producing new mods, levels and skins. Experienced players typically play in a clan together with like-minded ones, but anyone can change their name to look like they are part of a clan. Some experienced players choose not to be in clans because they don't view being in one is worth it.
