[edit] History

Begun in a tiny back-yard wooden shed on farmland near his then-home in West Rockport, Maine, Lie-Nielsen began by making reproduction Stanley No 95 hand planes using improved designs and tooling from Ken Wisner for Garry Chinn's supply to Garrett Wade. The first plan was delivered to Chinn in 1981.

The second plane Lie-Nielsen produced was a skew-angle block plane.

In 1988, Lie-Nielsen moved production into an 8,000 square foot facility in Warren, Maine, the town where the company still resides today.

In the mid-1990s, Lie-Nielsen moved the entire production to a 13,000 square foot facility.

[edit] Products

Since the early days of selected hand planes, Lie-Nielsen now produces over 50 different models, in addition to spokeshaves, socket chisels, screwdrivers, marking and metrology devices and workbench hardware.

Lie-Nielsen acquired the Independence Tool Co. in 1998, and now produces hand saws for its product line.
