Libra Dohko

Libra Dohko (Master Roshi) is a fictional character in the manga/anime Saint Seiya, created by mangaka Masami Kurumada. He is one of the oldest characters in the manga next to Aries Shion, as they both appear in the previous Holy War, and is most known by his role as Dragon Shiryu's mentor.

At the beginning of the Holy War in 1757 the young Dohko is promoted from a Bronze saint to the Gold saint of Libra. As he became one of the survivors of the ancient Hades War, after the war, Shion was assigned to be the pope of the Sanctuary while Dohko was assigned to guard the seal of Hades, to do that Athena gave Dokho the power of reducing the number of his heartbeats; so the same number of beatings made by normal person in a day are done by Dohko in a whole year. (see Suspended animation ) This enabled Dohko to live a long life, shrinked from his normal average human size to the one of an old purple man, looking a little similar to Yoda.
Dohko is Dragon Shiryu's Teacher, but Shiryu didn't know about Dohko's past, until Cancer Deathmask tries to kill Dohko just before the 12 Houses (Sanctuary) war. His most prominent appearance is in the Hades OVA, when he felt that the Hades seal finally broke, so he goes to the Sanctuary to fight against Hades, and then turns on the fire clock. Hades revives some dead Saints, including Aries Shion, the former pope. Shion and Dokho meet again, but Dohko is 243 years older. Then Dohko breaks the power of longevity and turns back to his original young form to be able to fight properly; he fights against Shion and other spectres, and uses his supreme attack, the Hundred Dragons of Rozan (Rozan Hyaku ryu Ha); then he goes to the hell, to the lament wall, but there's only one way to break the wall, it must be touched by a sunshine, then all the remaining golden saints gather their entire cosmos and break the wall, but they die in the act. Later on, it would be Dohko who tells the Bronze Saints (except for Seiya and Ikki) before they entered Hell that they had to acquire the Eight Sense in order to advance in this realm without losing their lives.
Although Dohko never fought in his actual form until the Hades arc when he faced Shion, but he proved to be helpful in several ocassions, as when he helped Shiryu to defeat Megrez Delta Alberich in the Asgard Anime Saga; in a flashback a young Dohko was shown fighting Alberich the 13th (an ancestor of the current Alberich), Dohko helped Shiryu to counter Alberich's "Nature Unity" technique. He also deleged his Golden Libra Cloth several times to the bronze saints, most notably to his disciple Shiryu (see below).
[edit] Gold Libra Cloth
The Libra Cloth is one of the 88 of Athena's "army", the Saints. There are 3 levels, and the Libra Cloth belongs to the upper one, the Gold Saints, along with other 11 cloths, 12 in total. It represents a balance, the common symbol of justice and symbol of the Libra constellation. This Cloth was used mainly by Dragon Shiryu in several ocassions.
The first time the Cloth was shown (in the TV series) was when the Bronze Saints arrive to the house of Libra; Cygnus Hyoga previously entered the house but was frozen solid by an attack from Aquarius Camus, later Shiryu uses a sword from the Cloth to break the ice and free Hyoga. It was used again in the battle against Poseidon and his Marinas, initially providing the Bronze Saints with its weapons in order to destroy the Underwater pillars of Poseidon's domains (during this time it was carried around by Aries Mu's apprentice, Kiki); and later Shiryu wore it in the final fight against Poseidon himself.
The Libra Cloth is one of the few Cloths allowed to use weapons of all Athena's saints. In fact, it's the Cloth which has the most weapons available, 6 kinds, 12 in total:
- 2 Swords.
- 2 Tonfas.
- 2 Tridents.
- 2 Nunchakus.
- 2 Three-section staves.
- 2 Shields attached with chains, which could be thrown like a yo-yo.
