[edit] Government
Liberty Township includes 22 miles of roads. Roadsides are mowed regularly throughout the summer and a five-year-plan has been implemented by the current board as to what major improvements can be accomplished when the proper fundings will be available. The township maintains five cemeteries: Londonderry, Concord, Schooley, Peecher and Tweed. Each cemetery is mowed on a weekly basis during the summer months and township employees take care of burial plots. A new fire station was opened in December of 2001, and membership continues to grow. Various grant monies have purchased a new ambulance and pumper tanker within the past five years. The township also owns a town hall, which community members can use for social gatherings such as family reunions, birthday parties and wedding showers. The local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, along with the Southeastern Senior Citizens, use the building on a regular basis.
The township administration, which is elected by the voters of Liberty Township, consists of three trustees and a fiscal officer. Chad J. Stevens, Raymond E. McWhorter and Dale E. Turner currently serve as trustees, while Shirley A. Manson serves as the fiscal officer. The primary responsibilities of a township trustee are the oversight of the maintenance and operation of the roads, cemeteries, and volunteer fire department. The responsibilities of the fiscal officer include keeping the meetings' minutes, appropriating the various monies, selling of cemetery lots, and preparing annual budgets.
The township recently purchased a mini track hoe along with a new Skag zero turn mower. This equipment is intended to help with cemetery maintenance.
The township employs two full time employees and up to three seasonal employees for the spring/summer mowing season. The trustees hold their regular business meetings every other Wednesday at 5:00 P.M. in the office of the fiscal officer, which is located at 4923 Vigo Road in Londonderry, Ohio.
