Libertarian Alliance

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Libertarian Alliance is a British libertarian think-tank that promotes free-market economics and civil liberties. According to its website, “The Libertarian Alliance is a non-partisan group fighting statism in all its forms and working for the creation of a truly free society.”

It has produced nearly 800 publications by over 250 authors. The LA used to produce a hardcopy journal, Free Life. Most LA publication is now Internet based.

Chris Tame founded the LA in 1967 as an informal discussion group originating from the Young Libertarians, the youth organisation of Society for Individual Freedom. The structure of the LA was formalised in 1979 and Dr Tame continued to lead it until his death from cancer in March 2006. Since then it has been led by Dr Tim Evans and Dr Sean Gabb.

Following a split in 1982, there exists a smaller group also calling itself the Libertarian Alliance. However, the one founded by Dr Tame and now run by Dr Evans and Dr Gabb is the one generally featured in the media.
