[edit] History

[edit] Fatal Fury

Being of Chinese heritage, but born and raised in Southtown, Xiangfei grew up with vast knowledge of the several Chinese martial arts, and as she became a quick and lethal fighter, her extensive training soon paid off. Xiangfei entered the battle arenas of Southtown, where she met true Southtown legends: Koppoken master Andy Bogard, Muay Thai champion Joe Higashi and, finally, the "Hungry Wolf" himself, Terry Bogard.

[edit] The King of Fighters

Having grown up with an intense admiration for such heroes, Xiangfei felt honored to compete with them. She soon knew about the entry of the "Lone Wolves" in the King of Fighters tournament, and decided to follow them and fight with them again. She tried to enter, but her Grandfather, Pai opposed it. During a normal evening of work at the Chinese restaurant where she lent her services as a part-time waitress and bodyguard, Xiangfei attended the table of a young woman who seemed like she was a martial artist. The woman seemed dead hungry, and with no reservations, she ordered a lot of food.

But soon it was obvious that the girl did not have enough money to pay for such a large meal. A furious Xiangfei demanded her payment, and both soon engaged in a ferocious battle. Her theories were right: the young woman was a fighter herself. The fight was at all its rage, when suddenly, she was approached by Blue Mary, who proposed that Xiangfei enter, having seen her fights in Southtown. [1]

Upon her promise to get enough food to feed her face, Xiangfei joined along with Blue Mary Ryan and Kasumi Todoh (the woman who had been unable to pay) to form the new all-female team. Having missed out on the 2000 King of Fighters tournament after being too late for the registrations, Xiangfei promised she would not be left out this time. In 2001, she teamed up with King, Mai Shiranui, and the sumo fighter Hinako Shijou. She replaced Yuri Sakazaki who left for the Art of Fighting team to comfort Robert Garcia. [2]

[edit] Game Information

  • Xiangfei's Majinga, which she uses as a P.Power move in Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and as a DM/SDM in KOF '99/'01, holds the record for single move that does the highest number of hits in the SNK fighting game world (and quite possibly any fighting game ever released). In RB2, it does 101 hits, whereas in KOF, the DM version does 101 and the SDM does 102. On occasion, the KOF 2001 SDM version does an astounding 2001 hits. This is rare, and it also does slightly more damage.
  • It should also be noted that the Majinga operates in a fashion similar to Ibuki's Yoroi Doushi in the Street Fighter 3 games. Xiangfei attempts to grab the opponent, and if she succeeds, then unleashes a tremendous amount of energy into his/her chest. If the opponent is too far away from Xiangfei to be grabbed, the move turns into a short-range, circular-shaped energy burst that does less damage than the close-up version. Since the Majinga made its "debut" in RB2, which was released more than one year after SF3, it is conceivable that SNK borrowed inspiration from Capcom when designing the move.

[edit] Trivia

  • Xiangfei's KOF endings usually have a lot of comic relief in them. Examples are:
  • King attempts to ask Xiangfei that did she have enough money to pay for a lot of Dim Sum (King of Fighters 99). [3]
  • Mai and King getting startled (Both Mai and King emit a very shocked look in their face) with her appetite for such amount of Dim Sum and did not have enough money to pay again (King of Fighters 2001). [4]
  • Xiangfei also appears in the China stage of King of Fighters 2002, participating in, and eventually winning an eating contest against Cheng Sinzan.
  • Xiangfei can also be seen in the nightime Dragon's Lair stage of KOF: Maximum Impact 2, standing on the back railing and, strangely, not facing the fight like other stage cameos.
  • Xiangfei and Rick Strowd were the options for a character who represented Real Bout 2 in KOF'99, but SNK programmers opted for Xiangfei because they needed a new female in the series and a chinese boxer. [5]
