I am African: born in Uganda and grew up in what is now called Zimbabwe. I have lived in various countries including the US, UK, South Africa, New Zealand, the Philippines and Australia. I speak several languages and have an eclectic background in terms of education and experience. I was a professional artist for four years, and continue to exhibit. I have had two medically-related books published and have self-published another two as well as having written several screenplays for movies; two of which have been optioned for production. My first film will be made in April, 2007. My interests include: art, literature, music, philology, archaeology, world history, colonial history, biology, medicine, ethics, wildlife conservation, sustainable ecological behaviour, etc. I have travelled in every major region of the world except South America and Eastern Europe. I see myself as a generalist and my contributions reflect that. Often I am able to bolster articles by alluding to other facts from the wider world that relate to that article (for example on Austronesian languages I contributed some cognates between three far-flung corners/languages of the Pacific (Tagalog, Maori (NZ) and Hawai'ian) because I have knowledge of all those languages). I am less good on specifics/specialisation, though I have written several articles that show both general and specific knowledge.
I consider myself well versed in the following subjects: literature, art, music, Celtic music, biology, medicine, evolution, anthropology, ecology, learning and psychology. I am happy to give opinions on these to all comers!
Stuff I have contributed to includes: the mopane worm, Maxwell's demon, Homo ergaster, Marie de France, William Gorgas, Monet, Gauguin, capture gun, Aleutian islands, Panama, medicine, Maori language, Austronesian languages, homoeopathy, Goya, Provence, Wuornos, Great Zimbabwe, stingray, Juan Carlos Finlay, medieval cuisine, etc.
Articles I have actually started: Swahili architecture, African currency, sensate focusing, Harthoorn, farangi, persistent generalized lymphadenopathy, imene metua, and several others.
I have also contributed to the French, German, Afrikaans and Dutch versions of wikipedia.
