[edit] Rand?

Why Ayn Rand is in both categories: LGBT rights oponent and activist?

Indeed, Ayn Rand does not belong on this page. But I don't seem to have the technical skill to edit a category...

The argument goes that, although Rand didn't approve of homosexuality, and although she said some pretty nasty things about gay people, she believed that all people were effectively on equal footing and equally deserving of liberties, and therefore supported decriminalization of sodomy, equal rights for gay people, etc. I believe there was some discussion about that on Talk:Ayn Rand -Seth Mahoney 22:48, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Bisexual rights activists

I am somewhat unhappy that we appear to be further marginalising a marginal community - which appears that it should be included in the "LGBT" of this category - by having a sub-category for "bisexual"-only activists. Either we should have all three separate "Lesbian rights activists", "Gay rights activists" and "Transgender rights activists" in addition to the "Bisexual rights activists" category, or we should have the single umbrella "LGBT" category. Given that it would be a minefield to separate these out I propose that the umbrella "LGBT" term should be the only one in use. Should there be no negative comments to this proposal I propose to make this change within seven days. --Vamp:Willow 15:22, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Activists and supporters?

I'm curious about this category in that it is only for activists. Is there a category for publicly declared supporters? Some of the article labeled with this are more about supporters than activists. Would it be appropriate to tweak the cat name to "LGBT rights activists and supporters"? Create a second cat for "LGBT rights supporters" of which "LGBT rights activists" would be a subcat? Suggestions? Feedback? Pondering this while I work on Natalie Maines, who I think I would consider a supporter but not an activist. ZueJay (talk) 21:38, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I would create a second one for supporters since there are bound to be many and they would only dilute the activists cat and make them hard to find if you tried to lump the two. Haiduc 22:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Would it be difficult to decide how to classify some people? Do supporters need to be categorized as such? Just raising the questions, Aleta 00:21, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't think that just being a supporter of LGBT rights is a sufficiently defining characteristic to be a category. People have lots of political and social beliefs; adding a category for each one would get out of hand quickly. —Celithemis 07:19, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
