[edit] Home ground

They play at Bassett Road football ground on the recreation field in Letcombe Regis. Club Secretary is Des Williams, a former school teacher. The ground is maintained by Des and Club Chairman Dennis Stock, who can often be found mowing the grass at all times of the year. Facilities at the ground include bar, changing rooms, showers and hot dogs.

Training is every Tuesday night at 7.00pm and is normally taken by Kevin Bailey. Kev employs some interesting motivational techniques.

[edit] Managers

At the end of the 2006 season manager Matt Goddard stepped down after three successful years at the helm. The highlight being a runners up finish in the Hellenic Division One East League in 2004-2005.

After the resignation of Matt Goddard from the managers post, the club looked within and appointed Kevin Baley as first team manager. Kevin immediately called upon good friend and life long Letcombe player Brian Monnery to assist him. Monnery is known for is fiery temper and massive acorn.

[edit] Club events

The club hold an annual ski trip, normally once every year.

[edit] 2006 awards

The 2006 awards evening was held at the prestigious East Challow Comrades Club. Mark de la Coze picked up the Players’ Player award, with Sean “Ginger” Webb receiving the vote from Mr Goddard for Managers Player. Young player of the year went to Tom Stone. In an interesting twist to proceedings, the traditional "Most Valuable Player" award was reinstated after several years’ absence from proceedings with the lucky recipient being Scott Boswell. Unable to play anymore due to his advancing years, Scott spent most of the season performing essential jobs around the club, including crafting the goal posts by hand.

Now the proud owner of his own organic goat farm Scott has no time to play the beautiful game but speaking at the awards evening, club secretary Des Williams spoke of Scott; “He’s been absolutely tremendous. If there was anything broken I only had to mention it to Scott who would get there in a jiffy! It’s people like Scott who keep small clubs like ours ticking over. There’s not many people who’ll clean for you, let alone with a smile on their face and a goat in the car park! Thank you Scott.” "Although" Des Joked "I'd be wary of his share tips".

In July 2006 it was decided to award Scott "the Daffodil" Boswell with Letcombe's highest acolade - "The Most Valuable Player 'Mark Lovegrove' award".

In early 2005 Liam "Knobbly Knees" Breen, the club's wackiest asset, was sold to Canadian club The Vancouver Bat spankers for an undisclosed fee. The Club wish him the all the best!

The 2006 pre-season has been an interesting period for Letcombe FC.

Results have been good in pre-season. A draw with Hook Norton in the first game followed with two good wins in the Clanfield Cup and progress in the premier local cup competition, the Faringdon Thursday cup, where Letcombe progressed to the semi-finals. Interestingly, both games were played on a Tuesday.

Kevin has swept in some changes from the previous seasons team with youngsters Simon Tabor and Adam Claydon replacing senior players Paul 'the nibbler' Roberts and Adam 'the burlgar' Pendell in the central midfield roles. Tabor has in fact generated some interest from local clubs and it is rumored that Witney Town FC may soon make an offer for the young star. He is reportedly holding out for a new screw driver in the deal.

[edit] Recent events

In recent weeks events have taken a turn for the worst. Following a poor run of results a fight broke out between Robbie Fairchild and Brian Monnery following a sending off. Monnery was seen to chase the aforementioned Fairchild down the touchline and clomp him one in the gob, at one point pinning Robbie to the floor with his massive acorn. Fortunately Des was on hand to calm things down.
