Leshan

Leshan (Simplified Chinese: 乐山; Traditional Chinese: 樂山; pinyin: Lèshān; Wade-Giles: Le-shan) is a prefecture-level city in Sichuan province of the People's Republic of China. Leshan is on the Southwestern fringe of the Red Basin in Southern Sichuan. Leshan is about 170 km from Chengdu. Leshan Teachers' College− is here. Leshan is the site of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral. In 1996, Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area in Leshan was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The highest hill in Leshan city is named Laoxiaoding. Located beside it is the No.2 high school(Tian Jiabin Exprimental high school).

The Grand Buddha or Leshan Giant Buddha, the largest stone-carved buddha in the world, is located here. Emei mountain is in Emei Shan city which is governed by Leshan. The meaning of Leshan in Chinese is "happy mountain".

There are a lot of delicious snacks in Leshan such as Bobo-chee (钵钵鸡, a snack of chicken), Yow tang ya (油烫鸭, similar as fried duck) and Nou row ka bin (牛肉卡饼, Leshan dialect: Beef pie) and so on.

The accent of Leshan dialect which is a part of the southern linguistic system is very different from the dialect of other cities in Sichuan province which belong to northern system.
