Les and Alan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Les and Alan are two of many characters from the comic world of Peter Kay.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Les and Alan are another double act from Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, with small appearances in both That Peter Kay Thing and Max and Paddy's Road To Nowhere.

Les and Alan's three favourite things are:

  • Drums and Keyboard
  • Cigarettes
  • A pint or two

Les and Alan take on the form as a musical double act called "Les Alanos". Les on the drums and Alan on the keyboard. They are the backing group for Jerry St Clair, hopelessly joining in with his awful racket. Alan once caused an uproar, when he was in Stranraer in Scotland on the grand opening of The Phoenix Club, managing to get back on time to play the keyboard for Jerry.

They made Brian Potter, the owner, feel uneasy by pretending a fellow worker Ray Von was a mass murderer. They weren't that far from the truth when they said he was in prison for a life sentence...when it turned out he was in prison for being a con-man. Les and Alan are a team that are always there to add a bit of bass and bang to another person's singing (apart from Talent Trek when they were replaced by a camp criminal backing group called "Right Said Frank"). In all Phoenix Nights episodes, the music that appears to be played by them is not. Peter Kay revealed that Toni Baker and The Band did the real music, sat behind a curtain on set.
