[edit] Pictures
Are you asking how to upload images or how to put them in an article?
To upload a picture so that you can put it in an article, just click on the "Upload file" link on the left side of your screen in the "Toolbox". That will take you to a page where you can easily upload images to Wikipedia. You must make sure that your image is not copyrighted...pictures from most external websites will not work here. Refer to Wikipedia:Copyrights for a full description of what can and cannot be used here.
To use an image in an article, refer to Wikipedia:Images to see the proper syntax for placing an image.
An example image syntax is...
Where...
"Image" is the name of the file that you want to use (remember to include the proper file extension like .jpg or .png
"thumb" indicates that the image should appear as a "thumbnail" image in the article
"100px" is the size you want to use for the image. It is a bad idea to make this a very large size because the image will get pixelated and be too big for the article
"Caption" is the text that you want to appear under the image in the file
If we place the preceding syntax in an article, we would end up with the image you see here.
If you have any more questions or if I didn't help you enough here, feel free to drop me another comment on my talk page. Have a nice day! --MatthewUND(talk) 23:38, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Request for edit summary
Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 0% for major edits and 0% for minor edits. (Based on the last 122 major and 0 minor edits in the article namespace.)
This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 14:00, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A couple of comments
There are a couple of things that I would like to ask you to do as you create and modify articles on Wikipedia. First, please don't add excessive external links to articles. Wikipedia is not a repository of links (please see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not). Second, when you create an article, it is proper to bold the first instance of the article's title when it appears in the article text. Bolding can be done by simply adding three asterisks ( ''' ) to the start and the end of the text you want to bold. One more thing, it would be greatly appreciated if you started adding short edit summaries to each of your edits. The edit summary field is located near the Save button and it doesn't take long to put a short summary in it. I know that when you were working under the ID of Gooby you also didn't make use of edit summaries. A short edit summary makes it so much easier for other users to understand what you have done with an article. While you're working, you might also want to take a peak at Wikipedia:Manual of Style to see the proper techniques for constructing articles. Have a nice day! --MatthewUND(talk) 08:42, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kirby Pucket
Please do not add eulogies as actual articles. The appropriate place is in the talk pages Bluap 13:02, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
I moved Kirby Will be Missed into your userspace at User:Leopold Samsonite/Kirby. Believe me, I know how you feel, but personally-written eulogies do not belong as articles. android79 13:36, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

- Great idea, Leopold! There's plenty of things the NDHSAA does to keep track of sport and forensics to fill volumes on Wikipedia. Feel free to add articles you want help on to the Project to do list, and don't be shy about using the Project talk pages. --AlexWCovington (talk) 02:41, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eagle Ridge Golf Club
9 hole golf courses really aren't notable in any way by default. Unless a particular golf course is notable for some other reason, I would suggest applying your (laudable) energies elsewhere on Wikipedia. -Harmil 18:29, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alfonso Rodriguez, Jr
Hello again. Alfonso Rodriguez, Jr has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this person might not be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:Notability (people) for the relevant guidelines. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.
If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the "prod" template, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but if an editor is still not satisfied that it meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Welcome back!
Hi, Leopold! Glad to see you're contributing again. WPND has been through a rough patch but we made it through. One of the issues was an AfD on Hawktree Golf Club -- Matt and I are going to merge a lot of golf course articles that we can't think of anything to add to, and keep a master list at List of golf courses in North Dakota... as you made most of these articles, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. --AlexWCovington (talk) 05:57, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism
A standard vandal alert template is {{bv|PAGENAME}}, which warns the user. If abuse continues, listing here will report the abuse to admins.
Please recall that editing any other user's page is generally discouraged, and creating one for vandals "bluelinks" their user page, potentially increasing the damage they can do before being caught. --AlexWCovington (talk) 02:18, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] MatthewUND's RfA
I just self-nominated myself for administrator's status on Wikipedia. As an active member of WikiProject North Dakota, I feel that having admin status would allow me the ability to be more useful to the project and to curtail vandalism and other problems. An admin is able to protect pages that are being bombarded with vandalism and to more quickly revert pages that have been vandalized. I've always hoped that we could get an admin to join the WikiProject so we would have someone to turn to in times of need. Since we still don't have an active admin within the project's membership, I decided to nominate myself. I really hope you will visit my request for adminship and support me. Thanks! --MatthewUND(talk) 10:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Watford City
Hey there! I see that you and User:MatthewUND have done some work on the Watford City, North Dakota article and several related to it. As a Watford City native, I say thanks! I'd only suggest one thing, which is to find a way to explain that the Oilers are not (or at least to my knowledge still are not, unless things have changed recently) part of the school but rather a private undertaking outside of the school. Other than that, great work. I wish I had the time to devote to my home state's storied history, but fortunately others are hard at work. Thanks again! [edit] Problems with vandals
It can be pretty frustrating having to deal with vandals. I have a couple thousand articles on my watch list so I revert many acts of vandalism every day. When you notice someone causing vandalism, go to their talk page and add one of the warning templates found at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. If you notice a persistent vandal, don't hesitate to leave a message at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Persistent vandals can be blocked for periods of time or indefinitly. --MatthewUND(talk) 20:54, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] North Dakota State Bison wrestling
Thank you for your work and creation of the North Dakota State Bison wrestling article. I noticed you hadn't been working on it lately and then realized I had eliminated your "head coach table" when I didn't really mean to. It's a nice table and connects the article to the other NDSU sports articles. I'd removed it once when I incorporated the info into the article and then did it again when it wasn't formatted right and I wasn't sure how to fix it. I didn't mean to keep removing your work and I don't want you to feel unwelcome editing since you do such a nice job on NDSU and North Dakota articles. Feel welcome to do any editing you'd like. The article could use your help. Johnn 7 16:26, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Uploading images
I know that uploading images can be very confusing. If you find it too daunting, don't hesitate to simply ask me to do it for you. I'm very willing to help out if you can just point me to an image's location on the web.
Remember, there are really very few images that can be legally uploaded to Wikipedia. The only images that you would really want to be uploading are either images you've created yourself or images that fall into a few narrow categories of acceptable images for Wikipedia articles (including logos and works of the US Federal Government).
To upload, simply click on "Upload file" in the toolbox on the left side of the screen. From there, you need to specify the "Source filename" and the "Destination filename". The image you want to upload should already be saved on your computer. Click on "Browse" and select the image on your computer that you want to upload. Then, come up with a "Destination filename". If it confuses you too much, you can simply skip over the "Summary" section for now. The last thing you have to do is select an appropriate "License". For the sports team logo you mentioned, you would want to scroll down and select "Logo" as the license. Then, just click "Upload file" and wait for a while (generally a few seconds to a minute) for the uploading to complete.
I hope this helps. I know this is a confusing process! --MatthewUND(talk) 07:28, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
