[edit] Skyline photos

Hello. Thanks for uploading the photos of the city skylines. Please add source and license information to the image pages. Also, to avoid naming conflicts, please give your photos descriptive names. - Redjar 02:02, 25 Oct 2004 (UTC)

If you don't add source and license info for your photos, they will be removed for copyright violation. Kaldari 17:28, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright

Thank you for uploading Image:The Riverchase Galleria.jpg and for stating the source. However, its copyright status is unclear, so it may have to be deleted. If it is open content or public domain, please give proof of this on the image page. If the image is fair use, please provide a rationale. Thank you. BrokenSegue 19:16, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Birmingham disambiguation

Hello I've noticed you've made a lot of edits to the Birmingham, Alabama article, so I assume you come from that part of the world. There has recently been a discussion on the Talk:Birmingham page about whether there should be a direct link to Birmingham, AL at the top of the Birmingham page or whether there should just be a link to a disambig page. I wondered If you had any opinions on the matter? G-Man 5 July 2005 18:18 (UTC)

[edit] Image:106 KMEL.gif

[edit] About List of Urban-Formatted Radio Stations across the United States

You blanked out the page on your last edit. I'm assuming it was a mistake. Anyways i've revrted the page to your last version before the blanking. --Gaurav Arora Talk 14:43, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Birmingham News

I have a copy of their 100th Anniversary book which has a history. Unfortunately I'm going to be pretty busy for the next few weeks. I might get a decent stub in place. If you don't find a capsule history online, the newspaper might be able to email or fax one to you as a starting place, or, failing that, the Birmingham Public Library would have anything you need. [edit] Cut-and-paste moves

Hi, you used a cut-and-paste move to move Callsign to Call Letters. Please don't do cut-and-paste moves, as it separates the article from its history, which we need to keep for Wikipedia:Copyright reasons. I will fix this one - have you done any others? In this case, since you didn't move the Talk: page, we now have two separate talk pages going: Talk:Callsign and Talk:Call Letters, and I'm not quite sure how to fix that. Please use WP:RM for help with moves if the "Move this page" link/tab doesn't work. Thanks! Noel (talk) 02:30, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

PS: I don't usually check other User_talk: pages (so that I don't have to monitor a whole long list of User_Talk: pages - one for each person with whom I am having a "conversation"), so please leave any messages for me on my talk page (above); if you leave a message for me here I probably will not see it. I know not everyone uses this style (they would rather keep all the text of a thread in one place), but I simply can't monitor all the User_talk: pages I leave messages on. Thanks!

[edit] TV Station "brands"

The Wikipedia Manual of Style says that bolding in an article's introduction is for any redirects to that article. If you are going to bold the station's brand in the introduction, you need to also create a redirect from the brand to the station article. My personal opinion is that people will probably not be searching for the article by the station's brand, so the redirect is unnecessary and you should just have the station's brand within quote marks. I will, however, leave that as your choice to either create the redirects or eliminate the bolding for the station brands that you have been adding to television station articles. [edit] Image Tagging Image:Memphis skyline from the air.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Memphis skyline from the air.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Kaldari 19:32, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyrighted material

I've noticed that your history additions to WDAS-FM and WPPZ-FM read way too much like the material from this site. As a result, I've removed the history sections. You can resore them as long as they are worded in a way which doesn't infringe on the site's copyright. ErikNY 21:39, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 0% for major edits and 44% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 9 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 01:31, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Arlington Antebellum House.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

[edit] Section titles

  • I notice you've been reverting the AWB bot's changes to section headings. Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings)#Capitalisation indicates that when creating headings, one should "Capitalise the first letter of the first word and any proper nouns in headings, but leave the rest lower case." It seems that if you differ with the stated style guidelines it would be more productive to contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (headings) than to just follow the bot around reverting. --Dystopos 01:50, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:GreenvilleSC skyline night.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:GreenvilleSC skyline night.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Stan 03:12, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:WVTM ID.jpg

After considerable review, Image:WVTM ID.jpg cannot be used on WVTM-TV. While the image may or may not be a correct representation of the station's broadcast logo, it does not match any representation of the station's logo on its website, rendering it original research (as anyone living outside the station's broadcast capability has no "resources they may consult to pursue their own research"). This image also carries potential copyright issues as, since it is an alteration combining these two images with original artwork, it is not among the logos specifically offered for use by the station's website. While this image cannot be used and has been deleted, I should mention that a low-resolution, unaltered screenshot of a direct-broadcast logo would be acceptable.

To expand, meantime, on an earlier point: it takes two people to engage in an edit war, but only one to stop it. If you can't work together for the benefit of the encyclopedia (the goal being that Wikipedia is correct about everything, not its individual users) then you will have to work apart—as in, avoiding any page on which the other edits.

The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 17:28, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
