[edit] Edit summary

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Thank you for your note. Good question. See Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Verifiability#Obscure topics. -- Perfecto 12:21, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi again. If you're looking to practice your copy edit skills, check out Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit. Have fun! -- Perfecto 20:30, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cross curves of stability

I've marked the article {{db-nonsense}}. The guy made one edit last October and never returned. An admin will look at it shortly and delete the article. Thank you for the heads up. -- Perfecto 11:41, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] copied from the bands website

Three choices: (1) remove the material, saying "rv copyvio from http://something.com/file.html". (2) rewrite the material so it's not a copyvio. (3) contact the submitter and wait for ages for her to do #2 or to claim she has permission to release it to the GFDL. The choice is up to you. --Perfecto 19:27, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Cedric_bixler2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cedric_bixler2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 09:16, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Business memo

I thought I'd let you know that I have redirected an article you started, Business memo, to Memorandum. This is because Wikipedia is not a how-to manual. Let me know if you have any questions about why I did this, or if there are reasons it should be undone. NickelShoe 20:59, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Redirects are quite easily undone. If you'd like to undo it and merge the relevant material, that is not difficult at all. I don't do time tables on things that are easily undone, because many users don't read the comments I leave them (perhaps aren't around anymore), and I'd have a rather large calendar of to-dos. I was just being nice by informing you of why I redirected it, and left you a link to explain it in detail. Very few editors take that time.
I honestly didn't think there was any particularly encyclopedic information at business memo, or else, as you suggested, I would have merged it myself. If you'd like to take it upon yourself, simply click the link to business memo. Under "Memorandum" it will say "redirected from." Click on business memo, then click on page history. Click on the second date. There will be the old article. To restore it, click edit this page and save it. Or you can simply copy and paste info into Memorandum, making sure to note what you're doing in the edit summary. NickelShoe 04:14, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

--Sherool (talk) 12:45, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, the reason I mentioned this particular image to you is because it has been overwritten a number of times and while the current version is not yours acording to the upload log there you did upload something back in December to that name:

09:31, 11 December 2005 . . Leo Collin (Talk) . . 1700x2338 (788775 bytes) (I created this document.)

The revision is question is this one, a scan a "mock memo" to the airforce or something. That's why I sent you this "heads up" if the image is deleted so is all the previuos versions. Though I guess it won't me missed if you have forgotten about it :P --Sherool (talk) 06:47, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Gmony.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Gmony.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:07, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Sbl.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Sbl.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 09:44, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
