Looking Back is a Leon Russell album, only in the loosest sense. Released in 1973, shortly after the success of his single Tightrope, it's basically a bunch of instrumental tracks that were recorded in the mid-60s, featuring Russell on harpsichord, along with three of his wrecking crew mates on guitar, bass and drums (see personnel). The legitimacy of this release is in question for various reasons. Neither the record or the album sleeve give writing credits for any of the songs, plus the fact that there does not appear to be anything else ever released on the "Olympic" label. In spite of all this, there was briefly an actual CD re-issue in 1991 on the Japanese Jimco label, with three bonus tracks.
A point of interest for hardcore fans, is the fact that Russell's well known predilection for Bob Dylan covers goes back this far. The tune entitled Gospel Harp has virtually the same melody as Dylan's With God on Our Side.
