Lengths of science fiction film and television series

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list shows the total running lengths of science fiction television and film series. It separates canon and non-canon where applicable. It also separates original canon from remakes and "re-imaginings".[1] Note that this list contains only the officially released motion picture media (films and TV series) contained within the various science-fiction series. Additional unique motion-picture content from other media is included under the supplemental category. Some series may contain other media (books, comics, video games, etc.) which are not listed here. Most timings are approximate.

[edit] Notes

  1. a b c  The term "re-imagining" is used by producers of some new versions of films or television series to distinguish them from more faithful remakes. The producers of the 2001 version of Planet of the Apes[1] and the 2003 version of Battlestar Galactica[2] chose to describe those projects as "re-imaginings" of the source material rather than as remakes.
  2. ^  The Alien series by itself is 0:10:46; the Predator series by itself is 0:05:30 (counting Alien vs. Predator for both).
  3. ^  K-9 Adventures, a children's series starring K-9, has been announced, but it is not clear whether it will be part of the Doctor Who canon, as it is not being produced by the BBC.
  4. ^  Various plans for more Serenity or Firefly on television or film have been rumored, but nothing has yet been confirmed.
  5. ^  A remake of the film has been announced for 2007.
  6. ^  A new Star Trek film, to be written and directed by J. J. Abrams, has been announced, but has not yet entered production.
  7. ^  Star Wars has a detailed categorization system to organize various levels of canon. See Star Wars canon for an explanation.
  8. ^  A 3-D continuation of this animated series is currently in pre-production.
  9. ^  The live-action Star Wars television series was scheduled to enter pre-production in January 2006, but it is not clear whether it has done so.
  10. ^  A script for a fourth Terminator film has apparently been written and approved by the studio[14], but it is unclear when or if it will enter production. Arnold Schwarzenegger is not scheduled to appear in the film[15].
  11. ^  The 2007 film does not appear to adhere to any of the existing Transformers canons.
  12. ^  The sum total of *all* Transformers series is approximately 08:15:01.
  13. ^  The Beast Wars II film consisted of two previously unaired (in Japan) episodes of the Beast Wars series, followed by a 45 minute original animation, which is the only part of the run time considered here.
