Leinster Senior Cup or Leinster Schools Senior Cup to give it its full name is the under-age rugby union competition for schools affiliated to the Leinster Branch of the IRFU. First held in 1887, the cup celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2007.

It traditionally draws large crowds to matches and up to 25,000 for the final tie which traditionally takes place on Saint Patrick's Day at Lansdowne Road.

Historically Blackrock College is by far the most successful team in the cup's history having lifted the cup 65 times, followed by Terenure College with 10 Wins, Belvedere College with 9 Wins, Castleknock College, with 8 Wins, Clongowes Wood College with 6 Wins and St. Mary's College with 5 Wins, although it is to be noted that Castleknock College have not won the cup in 41 years meaning that the 5 best teams really are Blackrock College, Terenure College, Belvedere College, Clongowes Wood College and St. Mary's College.[1]

Since 1980 12 different schools have contested the finals but only 6 schools have lifted the cup. The biggest margin of victory in a recent final was in the 1996 cup when Blackrock College beat Newbridge College by 37 Points (6 tries) to 3, however the greatest margin in the history of Cup finals was in 1900 when Blackrock College beat Corrig School 63 - 0.[1]

Two captains have gained the distinction of lifting the cup twice, Jonny Mion (Blackrock College) in 1989 and 1990 and Barry Gibney (Blackrock College) in 1995 and 1996.[1]

In the 120 year history of the cup, there has only ever been one final to end in a draw. In 1994 St. Mary's College drew with Clongowes Wood College 14-14, however Mary's triumphed in the replay scoring 7 points to Clongowes 3.[1]

The best scoring perfomance by a single player was given by the future Irish international Victor Costello (Blackrock College) when he scored 10 tries in the 1989 Cup.[1]
