Leila Shahid

Leila Shahid (born in Beirut in 1949) is, since november 2005, the envoy of Palestine to the European Commission in Brussels. Before that, she was the official representative of the PLO, then the PA, in France, where she had taken office in Paris in 1994.

She is a member of the al-Husayni clan, a grand-niece of the former "Grand Mufti of Jerusalem", Amin al-Husayni and a cousin of the late prominent PLO-members Yassir Arafat, Moussa Arafat and Faysal Husayni.

She makes frequent appearances in the French and Belgian media to promote the Palestinian point of view.
