Leila Aboulela (1964 -) ,Arabic 'ليلى ابوالعلا' is a Sudanese writer and playwright.

Leila Aboulela grew up in Khartoum, Sudan. She graduated from Khartoum University in 1985 and was awarded her Masters degree from the University of London. She lived in Dubai and Aberdeen where she stayed with her family and published most of her works. Currently she lives in Indonesia.
She was awarded the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2000 for her short story The Museum and her novel Translator was nominated for the Orange Prize in 2002.
