Leigh Ashford
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leigh Ashford was a rock group formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1966 by , guitarist Gord Waszek, vocalist Dave Cairns , bassists Joe Agnello and drummer Don Elliot, (former member of Mandala) and keyboard player Newton Gerard. The band kept busy in the clubs in Toronto until in 1968 they disbanded. Leigh Ashford was re-formed in 1970 by Gord Waszek and Joe Agnello (who was with Grant Smith & The Power during the break-up) with a new vocalist Buzz Shearman (former singer of Sherman & Peabody which also featured Greg Godovitz and Gil Moore) and Wally Cameron on drums (former member of A Passing Fancy), they recorded their debut album called Kinfolk in 1971. Things were looking good for the band with a USA tour and the album's first single, "Dickens", began gaining attention of American radio stations. The band then returned to Canada for a tour after recording the album but because of creative differences due to the band members turn-over rate, Gord Waszek left to join Fludd in 1972. It fell to singer Buzz Shearman to pick up the pieces and soldier on, Buzz kept the band and its name going and by June of 1973 "Buzz" would recruit Earl Johnson guitar (Former member of King Biscuit Boy), Terry Juric bass, and Bill Wade drums (Former members of Outlaw Music). Before finally evolving with a harder sound into the hit recording act Moxy in late 1974. In 1997 Pacemaker Records re-issue the album on CD.
