The Leigh District provides several venues for rugby, golf, touch, soccer and other well-known sports. The Rodney District's national rugby team the "Rodney Rams" are home-based at the Whangateau waterfront, with their convenient clubrooms located at a cosy welcoming-environment known as Whangateau Reserve. The reserve is frequently used for the local Touch tournaments.

"Goat Island Marine Reserve" provides the bulk of recreational leisure with features including Scenic Marine Observations, Glass-Bottom Boat trips, Scuba-Diving, and much, much more, however there is strictly NO Fishing! Getting around Leigh is so simple. Since it's such a small town most people travel by car. The main, and only route to get to all suburbs is the main State Highway, SH1, also known as "Main Rd" or "Leigh Road".
[edit] News & Media
The Leigh community newspaper is the Leigh Rag, and The Rodney Times is also delivered in the area. Leigh needs to work on Emergency procedures e.g Tsunami warnings, because emergency drills are almost unheard of. Breaking News will take longer to get to residents of Leigh, rather than, say Auckland, due to the Reception and Out-of-Range technology status.
[edit] Schooling
Leigh School is the local primary school catering for both pre-school and primary students. Within the Greater Warkworth District there's also Warkworth Primary.
High school students are served by Mahurangi College, located in the suburb of Mahurangi, Warkworth, and Rodney College, located to the west of Leigh. There are no intermediate schools in the Greater Warkworth District, therefore The Ministry of Education has referred intermediate students to the nearby colleges.
[edit] Local Industry
Leigh Fisheries is the area's only major company. It exports fresh fish both nationally and internationally.
