Leicester Urban Area

The Leicester Urban Area is a conurbation based around the city of Leicester in Leicestershire, England. While it has no formal definition as an administrative area, the Office for National Statistics does define a Leicester Urban Area with a population of 441,213 at the time of the 2001 census.

The figure given for Leicester excludes Beaumont Leys, which is within the boundaries of the city, but includes Glenfield, Thurnby, Scraptoft and Syston outside the boundaries[citation needed].

The urban area is, by the ONS figures, the eleventh largest in England, between the Portsmouth Urban Area and the Bournemouth Urban Area.
