[edit] Grammar

"The film failed in test screenings. Among the complaints from test audiences was about Jerry Goldsmith's score (considered by some music critics to be Goldsmith's greatest film work), and how teenage audiences would accept the film. Both Universal and Scott had decided to cut the film drastically from its nearly two hour length to 89 minutes for domestic release, and replacing Goldsmith's score with music by Tangerine Dream, Yes leader Jon Anderson, and Bryan Ferry. Scott allowed Goldsmith's score to remain on European prints. Tangerine Dream composed the music in three weeks."

There are at least two glaring grammatical (tense) errors in the paragraph I have copied above. I don't want to edit it in case my edit is construed as being an ad hominem attack. So can someone else do it please. RichardJ Christie 12:52, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand the problem- if you see an error in grammar, just fix it. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 15:17, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I dare not for fear of being misconstrued (see my talk page "User Docktor Who" for good reasons). I'll help out by pointing out that "Among the complaints [...] was about... , and how ..." is bad grammar. In addition, what does the word "had" add to the following sentence? Was the decision to cut related to the test screenings? Avoid the use of conjunctions after commas (yes, I admit that is an an old fashioned guideline but it remains a good one). Placing the little word "to" before "replacing" would help. Hope this helps RichardJ Christie 12:25, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

<sigh> Post your proposed change here and I will look at it. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 12:57, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

<deeper sigh> I have already indicated the grammatical shortcomings in my previous post. There can be no egg on my face if they aren't understood or acted upon. RichardJ Christie 11:00, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

<cry> I didn't write that section of this page, I copied it from Legend (film). Dr. Who 23:26, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

<grin> Assuming you won't accuse me of personal attack or wanting to sabotage the whole article I'll go ahead and fix it then. RichardJ Christie 10:00, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

And that's how its done, with consultation and teamwork. Good boys! <sm> RichardJ Christie 09:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes- this looks pretty good now. I knew there was something more to this, just needed to find some sources. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 11:27, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Except that I don't think this needs to be divided into the short sections. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 12:54, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
