Legislative Council of Canada

The Legislative Council of Canada was the upper house of the bicameral structure of provincial government in the United Provinces of Canada from 1841 to 1867. The upper house consisted of executive councillors whom voted on bills passed up from the Legislative Assembly of Canada.
This upper house was created from the former Legislative Council of Upper Canada and Legislative Council of Lower Canada. Following Confederation in 1867, the upper chamber continued in Quebec as the Legislative Council of Quebec until 1968, but it was completely abolished for Ontario. The Executive Council of present day Ontario is represented by the provincial cabinet.
