Category:Left-footed football (soccer) players

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a category of left-footed football (soccer) players from around the world. Naturally left-footed people make up about 19% of the population. In footballing terms this means on average a soccer team of 11 would have about two left-footed players on the pitch. Being left-footed is a particular advantage on the left side of midfield (the left-wing) as players can make crosses quickly without having to switch the ball to their right foot as is the case with a right-footed player. In theory, left-footed footballers can hit a ball more accurately than players who are right footed. Footballers such as Zidane and Figo are naturally right-footed, but choose to strike free-kicks with their left-foot.
