Lee Shapiro

Lee Shapiro was an American documentary film maker. His one feature length film, Nicaragua Was Our Home, was released in 1986. It was filmed in Nicaragua among the Miskito Indians who were then fighting against Nicaraguan government forces. In 1987 Shapiro was killed by the Soviet military while filming with anti-Soviet fighters in Afghanistan.

Shapiro was a member of the Unification Church and a graduate of the Unification Theological Seminary. His film making was supported by CAUSA, a church-related anti-communist organization. He is survived by his wife Linda Shapiro.
