[edit] Events
This page will be updated with current interests of mine. I will also include my thoughts on the many happenings around us.
[edit] Is Iran next?: 20:15, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Ok, so what's next? Will the USA attack Iran? I don't know it seems too risky. Let's assume it does, the Iranian people are known to be one of the most relentless and fanatic people ever. I don't think it's going to be an easy fight, unless the US slowly wears off the republic like it did with Saddam. In any case, the US has failed miserably in Iraq. The Massacre of Fallujah will remain a witness to the brutality of war. Vietnam isn't that far behind either. I just hope someone will wake up and end this war on terror which has turned into a randomly selected aggression against all those who dare oppose the might of the US.
[edit] 'Khan Al-Franj' in Saida (Sidon): 20:21, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Oh! How I miss Saida. It's the capital of the south of Lebanon and I have many lovely memories there. I intend to buy a property there someday! In any case, the picture to the right is one taken by me.
The Khan (a kind of a stable) was known to be used as a resting station for travelers during the Ottoman rule. It's one of the many tourist attractions in Lebanon. It's not a big place, but hey, does size really matter?
I'm now working in Abu Dhabi, as an IT Systems Operator in a local bank. In the mean time, I'm preparing for my CCNA and my first MCP, SQL Server 2000 Administration. I'm taking my time. You can say I'm using a low flame! Let's hope I take these certifications and make good make use of them. I pray God will help me in my endeavor! (Oh yes, I'm a religious individual!)
Oh my! Another day, another computer crash! I hate confrontations! Yes I love my work, but does this mean I have to stand still whenever my PC crashes? No! I'll help myself with some good ol' smacking!
Believe me; we in the Information Technology business make mistakes. Is that bad? Well one of my colleagues Mr. S.H. once said: "When you work, you make mistakes!" - Best sentence I ever heard in years! I think that wraps it all for now, at least until next time!
[edit] He died one year ago: 12:07, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, on February 14th, 2005, Mr. Rafik Hariri, the prime minister of Lebanon was murdered; and would you believe it, it was on Valentine's Day! I'm sure his cold blooded killers had no intention of creating this irony. But for most people, their love for him will never die. I really think Lebanon didn't need all that mess, but the bright side of the story is that those who were sucking the life out of Lebanese left, for good I hope.
He was always blamed that his fiscal and monetary decisions were the primary reason for the huge deficit Lebanon is constantly suffering from. Thus his enemies (who were plenty) kept distorting his image. People also seemed to forget all the excellent restoration projects he initiated, the various charity programs under his direct supervision, and the fact that he helped everyone, from all sects, not just the Sunnis to whom he belonged. In the end, it was a love or hate situation. Some even went as far as blaming him to be a warlord during Lebanon's civil war.
When he died, his arch-enemies looked upon themselves in disgust as they are now demanding his revenge, and their hands were still drenched in his blood. His supporters couldn't care less about what's going to happen and started a campaign called Al-Hakeekah (The Truth). The Syrian regime was the first to blame, followed by the Israeli Mossad, then by the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). For now, God only know what happened. And I don't think we will ever get to know who did this, because the crime was so complicated not only in technicality, but also considering the political climate of Lebanon, which is anything but stable.
Nothing new on my front for now. It's Valentine's Day? So what. I don't believe in such crap. Call me arrogant but for me, true love is everyday of the year. True love makes each day a Valentine's Day. For all others who celebrate ignorantly this occasion (how can people celebrate an unconfirmed tale is beyond me), I tell them: Go and get a life, because you're like so dead. That's it for now.
Man! I just completed the Challenge Series in EA's Need for Speed Most Wanted. It was one hell of a ride. But the last race against the cops really hit the spot. You have to endure 30 minutes of a killing level 5 then level 6 pursuit. I finally did it. Man was it worth it!
[edit] Choices... So many choices!: 15:09, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
I just took my driving license here in Abu Dhabi and I intend to buy a car. What to buy? Personally, I'm beginning to experience the 4x4 syndrome: Toyota Landcruiser, Nissan Pathfinder, Suzuki Vitara, Landstalkers... (I made that last one up!). In the end I might get a Mazda6 or a Kia Sportage.
I like the Mazda 6. It is a nice looking car with a 2.3L 4-cylinder engine. Actually, the Mazda 323 and Mazda 626 suck like hell. It's an impressive move to actually create a car like Mazda6 or Mazda3. It looks nice enough. At the same time, it's maintenance and upkeep are way cheaper than any other maker model. Take a look at this car. I hope I'll find a good, agency maintained Mazda6 somewhere. It is relatively new, released first in 2003.
The Kia Sportage. They will say so many things to convince you not to buy this car. Actually, they will only say "Kia? What the..." Yeah a very good excuse. I won't bother with anyone. It's my decision and my car!
Let's see now. To buy a good car, I believe you have to decide on three major issues:
- The car should serve you indefinitely. It won't crack down if you push the limit a little bit.
- The car should save you money not put more bills on your doorstep.
- You should love your car. No one can stand living with a hateful wife!
We'll just have to wait and see now won't we? In the mean time, I'll probably waste lots of time reading all those classified ads. Better waste time than money I say. Whoever said time is money? Well, I salute you! I'll save myself lots of cash by investing some thought into the whole matter. Let's just hope it's a winning investment.
