League of Spiritual Discovery

The League of Spiritual Discovery is an alternative media empire based in Baltimore, Maryland. The League runs a popular blog (The League: Reassembled) and a formerly programmed weekly radio program on 88.1 WMUC (The League: Radio Edit). In addition artistic and humorous pieces, The League is known for its social and political commentary. The League is one of the few sources for reports, commentary and analysis on Baltimore City politics and policy and writes extensively on state politics.

The League was formed as a performance arts group in 2001 by three students at Calvert Hall College. After several performances at Baltimore-area high schools and churches, The League recorded its first full-length album in summer 2003. Two years later, The League:Reassembled was launched and soon followed by The League: Radio Edit.

The League: Reassembled is the popular blog of The League of Spiritual Discovery. The site was launched February 20, 2005 and was hosted by the Baltimore Writers Project, a community literary arts organization in Baltimore run by several members of The League. On July 22, 2005, The League introduced a new URL at www.leaguereassembled.net but continued to host the content with the Baltimore Writers Project.

Although it has featured postings as varied as a passionate ode to a motorcycle and a rhyme about a suicidal monkey, The League: Reassembled is best-known for its commentary and analysis city, state and national politics and policy. Most postings are catalogued within seven categories:

Maryland Politics Covers politics and policy in Baltimore City and the state of Maryland. The recurring City Council Watch is one of the few sources for commentary on the Baltimore City Council.

ReligiousRightWatch Features interesting stories on right-wing religious groups, criticizes the political activities of conservative Christians and offers essays on Christianity and religion.

National Politics Comments on national and international political events, providing emphasis on their impacts on Maryland and Baltimore.

Baltimore Life and Culture Explores the unique character of Maryland's largest municipality.

Central European Expeditionary Unit Journal of a Leaguer's adventuresome summer in Prague, Czech Republic with forays into other Central European cities as well as Moldova and Ukraine.

In addition to the posts, The League: Reassembled offers The Daily Intelligencer, a daily briefing of news headlines featuring city, state, national, world, religion, legal and financial news.

The League: Radio Edit was the weekly radio show of The League of Spiritual Discovery. The show, which aired from May 2005 until June 2006, featured an eclectic selection of music and public affairs programming.

Beginning in late 2005, The League: Radio Edit began a series of interviews with Maryland candidates for the United States Senate and Governor. Guests included Kevin Zeese, Allan Lichtman, Ben Cardin, Daniel Vovak, Tom Hampton, Lise Van Susteren, Joshua Rales, Kweisi Mfume, Dennis Rasmussen, Doug Duncan and Martin O'Malley.
