[edit] Course
The Leaf flows from Gourd Lake in eastern Otter Tail County and flows generally eastwardly through southern Wadena County, through Grass, East Leaf and West Leaf Lakes and past the town of Bluffton. It flows into the Crow Wing River from the east in Thomastown Township, about 10 mi (16 km) north-northwest of the town of Staples and about 1 mi (2 km) upstream of the mouth of the Partridge River.
The Leaf's largest tributaries are the Wing River and the Redeye River, both of which join it in Wadena County.
