Le Thoronet Abbey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Le Thoronet Abbey was a Cistercian monastery in the département of Var in Provence, France.

It was founded in 1120 from Mazan Abbey, and was one of the Cistercian abbeys known as the "three sisters" of Provence (the others were Sénanque Abbey and Silvacane Abbey).

It was suppressed in the French Revolution, but the impressive buildings were bought back by the state in 1854 and have since been preserved.
