From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Le Fjord-du-Saguenay (The Saguenay Fjord) is a Regional County Municipality in northeastern Quebec, Canada in the region of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. The seat is in the City of Saguenay which is actually a separate census division. The RCM is named for the fjord part of the Saguenay River, protruding out of the Saint Lawrence River into the southern section of the RCM. It was created in 1982, consisting mostly of the former County of Chicoutimi except for a few Municipalities which were taken from parts of Lac-Saint-Jean-Est County. In 2002, the cities of Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie and the surrounding area amalagamated and became the City of Saguenay at which point they separated from the RCM.
