LcdBible is open source Bible freeware that uses The Sword Project api. It works with Microsoft Windows.

Some of the characteristics include:

  • Works well with L)owest C)ommon D)enominator computers, including early Pentiums with VGA monitors
  • Small download size for people with slow modems
    • 1.6 megs almost fits on floppy disk, including the complete World English Bible
    • there are special builds that will fit on a floppy disk
  • Reduced learning curve with getting started non-scholar layout that has limited functionality of:
    • show verse reference (such as John 3:16)
    • find verses with one or more search words (which verses have both of the words pride and fall)
  • Relatively fast search speed. Incremental Search option will find matching verses as letters are typed.
  • Different English Bible translations, including NET, ESV, WEB, KJV, and many others provided by The Crosswire Society.
  • Flexible search options for:
    • All Word vs Any Word
    • Case Sensitive or cAsE iNseNsitiVe
    • Partial Match vs Exact Match (generation may or may not match regeneration or generations)
    • Phrase Match (world God loved may or may not match John 3:16 For God so loved the world ...)
  • Caveats and Limitations
    • Only English Bibles ... no commentaries, dictionaries, on non-English resources
    • No provision for showing cross-references, chapter headings, or translator notss
    • No regular expression matching
    • No spanning of several verses
    • No provision to add end-user notes
    • Is not portable to Mac or Linux (may work with Wine ... not verified)
