Lazarashvili is a Georgian last name tracing its roots to ancient Georgian Kingdom of Meskheti, land of ancient Mushki people. The name consists of two parts: "Lazar" and "Shvili". "Shvili" means "the child of" in Georgian language, and "Lazar" comes from a Jewish phrase "El Azar", which means "God Helps". "Lazar" could also stand for a man's name Lazarus, which is "Lazare" in Georgian. Hence the ambiguation: the name may mean "son of Lazarus" or "Son of the one whom God helps"
