Lawrence Wackett

Sir Lawrence James Wackett (1896 - 1982) is widely regarded as "father of the Australian aircraft industry".
Wackett was born in Townsville, Queensland, on 2 January, 1896. He served in the Australian flying corps in France and Palestine during the first world war and received the Distinguished Flying Cross in September of 1918.
On his return home he founded the first experimental air station to be established in Australia. In 1936 he founded and was the first managing director of the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation.
