Lawrence Casal is one of the most important DJ's of Central America’s electronic scene. Lawrence was born on May the 28th, 1976 in Turrialba, Cartago, Costa Rica, Central America.

Casal discovered his interest for music in the late 80's, some influences were his school classmates, older brothers and childhood friends. He began listening classic punk, however when time went by, he discovered different styles and more electronic sounds with bands like Depeche Mode, Camouflage, Dead or Alive, Bronski Beat, Red Flag, Kraftwerk, or Simply Red, just to mention a few.

His liking for music made him get closer to production in the early 90's, when he began empirical playing drums. After sometime, Lawrence turned to keybords. As a musician he had the opportunity to play in some rock bands. With Umbral he organized some concerts and alternative local parties in Costa Rica. After the official split of the band at the late 90's he decided to remain as a DJ.

In 2002 he discovered the electroclash, this style represented a hybrid of everything he liked. At the end of 2003 he decided to show his electro proposal with dance influences to the just born electronic scene in Costa Rica, becoming one of the most important Costa Rican DJ's. He decided not to type-cast his style as electro and started to easily incorporate subgenera like Tribal, Progressive, Deep, and Tech house. Even mainstream club house depending on the event.

By the end of 2004 Casal started his own promoter Promosonica, which started to work in the foreign market by the end of the same year. By the end of 2005 he launches the website promosonica.com [1], as the official promoter website and one of the most important electronic/on-line magazines in Costa Rica.

Lawrence’s professional background lays in advertising and the radio broadcasting. As a DJ he had the opportunity to play in the most important clubs of his country, such as Vertigo, Punto G and Club Oh! where he was the front Dj since 2005. This experience gave him the chance to position his promoter as the responsible for events and booking of an international and worldwide category.

Casal dee-jayed several times at Panama and shared the stage with the main DJ’s of this country, and bands like Editus. He opened big international events like Ray Wilson, former vocalist of the British band Genesis. Additional events include sharing turntables with DJ's like Donald Glaude, Angel Alanis, Gilbert Le Funk, DJ Lazardi, Barry Harris (from Thunderpuss), DJ Cael, DJ Friction, DJ Kiokio, Lenny Fontana, Felix Da Housecat and many more.

His skills have made him play in different important modeling events. By 2006 he had the opportunity to play in one of the most important massive events of his country: "Los Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Cartago 2006" at the Cartago stadium in front of a 10.000 people audience. This represented one of his biggest experiences as a DJ and contributor for the electronic music in Costa Rica. This will help with one of his main objectives: to expand the border of the electronic music and bring new people to this scene.
