Lav Diaz

Lav Diaz or Lavrente Diaz is a Filipino independent filmmaker, born in Quiamba, Mindanao,Philippines on December 30, 1958. He is recognized in the Philippines and internationally as one of the few Filipino filmmakers who have not succumbed to the Hollywood style of filmmaking that is dominant in the Philippines and the world over. He has won several prestigious international awards such as the award for Best Asian Feature in The Singapore International Film Festival in 2002 for his film Batang West Side (West Side Kid). His films often tackle the issues regarding the current social and political state of the Philippines.
