No — it was a bad idea to begin with. Fradulent e-mails can mention anybody. If advance fee fraud e-mails circulated with Condoleezza Rice or Nelson Mandela as the subject instead of Kabila, would you place the purple box on top of their articles, too? The purple box wasn't my idea, but another Wikipedia user; see the revisions before mine. I just tidied it. — ciphergoth 17:42, July 27, 2005 (UTC)

The box was signed by User:Jimbo Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, which is why it has stayed up so long. From its wording, I had assumed that there was a spam email somewhere that explicitly mentioned the Wikipedia article, rather than a general reference to Kabila. I have no idea if the spam is no longer in circulation. - BanyanTree 20:09, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Even if the box was Jimbo's idea, I still think it's a bad one that needlessly detracts from the article. If a spam e-mail that referenced this page was the impetus for adding the warning, I'd certainly like to see the message myself (and add it to BJAODN.) --Ardonik.talk()^* 04:31, July 28, 2005 (UTC)

After doing a google search excluding wikipedia.org sites, and finding nothing but mirrors repeating the tag, I'm removed it. - BanyanTree 13:15, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

I've tried to remove the rampant POV attacking Kabila's government. Ideally some specifics for the criticism should be provided. Even so, it seems extremely biased to suggest that Kabila could have constructed a corruption-free liberal democracy in the months before Rwanda attacked. It is a fact he didn't do so, but no objective account should frame the discussion in this way.--Jack Upland 02:02, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

"When the Congo gained independence in 1960, Kabila was a youth leader in a party allied to Patrice Lumumba. Lumumba was overthrown by Joseph Mobutu within months. Kabila and other supporters of Lumumba fled into the jungles of eastern Zaire. In 1964, Kabila helped organise a revolt in the Ruzizi region."

Does this not gloss over the role of Belgium and the USA in Lumumba's assassination? I know a full discussion would be better placed under Lumumba's page, but some reference to Western involvement should be made. Perhaps it would be better to simply state "after Lumumba's assassination..."
