[edit] Oldest Continually Running School in Australia
I've posted references, admittedly to the actual school website, and the book of the schools history, which supports this, however if I'm wrong, please let me know and I will tell the school (who've been telling people this factoid for yrs). Segat1 17:27, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
you are wrong! kings school sydney 1924, st patricks primary parramatta 1920 marist college parramatta 1920 cathedral college sydney 1924 st matthews windsor 1932 st mary's primary school willimastown 1941 all predate launceston church grammar. I suspect mercedea college perth 1946 does too!! and there's one in west dapto too from memory!
claims from the school website are NOT verifiable evidence.

Do you mean 1824 etc? Kings School, Parramatta was closed from January 1864 until January 1869, so cannto claim to be open continually. http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:yAljx7UOmFcJ:www.stpeters.org.au/ausanglican/grammar.shtml+kings+school+history+parramatta+closed&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=25
I'm not disputing that the schools were founded earlier than LCGS, but LCGS claims to be the oldest continually running school in Australia, ie.. no closures in is history.
I'll contact the school about it. Segat1 19:06, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
If the school makes this claim then it is wrong. I do not have all the info with me at the moment but there are about six or seven schools which have operated continuously for a longer period. For example St Mary's Williamstown in Victoria has operated continuosly and on the same site since 1841 or 1842. Marist high School/st patricks college parramatta has operatd continuosly since 1920 and St mary's cathedral college in sydney has opearetd continuusly and on the same site since 1924 (except they moved off site for 4 years recently whilst they rebuilt). So the claim is not true. PS: Mercedes College in Perth has operated continuously since the 2nd of February 1846 whereas Launceston Church Grammar did not commence until the 15th of June in the same year.
