Laurenţiu Rotaru

Laurentiu Rotaru, bass-baritone, is a native of Romania. He lives in Hartford,he majored at Central Connecticut State University in Music Performance, and he is a Master of Music student at University of Connecticut. He performed as Leporello in Don Giovanni, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Zuniga in Carmen, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Mephistopheles in Faust, Sarastro in The Magic Flute and Cascada in The Merry Widow with Connecticut Lyric Opera, Achillas in Julius Caesar in Egypt whith Opera Theater of Connecticut,Il Comandatore in Don Giovanni with The Conservatory of Bucharest, Mr. Jenks in The Tender Land by Aaron Copland with Queens College of New York, and as Dr. Grenvil in La Traviata. In 2001 he performed for the Festival “Tinere Talente” of Ramnicul Valcea – Romania with the Philharmonic Orchestra “Ion Dumitrescu”, and in 2002 at the Romanian Festival in New York. He started his intensive music training at The Conservatory of Bucharest – Romania, and he performed for one year at The National Opera of Bucharest. He also was a soloist of the “Divine Harmony” professional choir of Bucharest, touring Romania, Greece, and Italy. Mr. Rotaru was a winner of The National Association of Teachers of Singing competition (2004), and of The Connecticut Guild Opera Competition (2004), and a finalist of Amici Competition (2005), and The Connecticut Guild Opera Competition (2005). In October 2004 he performed in Connecticut Lyric Opera’s concert at Carnegie Hall, New York. His former Seminary education positively influenced his interpretation of oratorio music which he takes great pleasure and ease in singing. His oratorio repertoire includes Dvorak’s Mass in D Major, Faure’s Requiem, Brahms’ Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem and Verdi’s Requiem.
