Laura Stoica (October 10, 1967 - March 9, 2006) was a Romanian singer.
Passionate about music, in 1986 she graduated from classic canto courses at "Popular Arts School" in Târgovişte, participating afterwards to all major new-talent contests held in Romania.
She made the next step in her artistic career in 1989 when she became a singer for a year at the "Toma Caragiu" Theatre in Ploieşti.
Even if music had always been the most important to her, Laura was also attracted by theatre, therefore graduating in 2000 from the "Theatrical Faculty", Arts Section (part of the Ecological University of Bucharest), being licensed in Arts-Acting.
In 1990, at the "Mamaia" festival, Laura Stoica made her debut with the song Un actor grăbit ("A Hurried Actor", written by Bogdan Cristinoiu). The next year she was declared the best pop-rock singer and Un actor grăbit - the song of the year.
Between 1987 and 1991 Laura Stoica took part in numerous music contests and managed to make a good figure.
Laura Stoica became a well-known Romanian star, an original singer, with a great solid voice, a skillful interpretation and a modern stage play. The first album, entitled Focul (The Fire) appeared on the market in 1994. Since then, Laura's songs have been included on many compilations, and in 1997 the second album was released, Nici o stea ("No Star").
Laura Stoica had believed for many years that she couldn't have babies and ended up dealing with this thought. However, she became pregnant at the end of 2005. But neither her nor her fiancé, Cristian Mărgescu (the bassist in the "Laura Stoica Band"), didn't want to make this announcement until they had the certainty that everything was going normal. "The baby is going to be born in September, and until his coming to this world I am keen on keeping all my concerts set and even prepare a new album. It's my way of welcoming my first born into this world", the star declared.
Unfortunately, on March 9, 2006, Laura Stoica and her fiancé lost their lives in a car accident near Urziceni, along with their unborn baby[1].
