Lauenau is a small town in Lower Saxony, Germany, of about 4,100 inhabitants. It is situated in the east of the district of Schaumburg at the slopes of hill Deister.

- Lauenau is documentarily mentioned in 1059 for the first time.
- In about 1200 Castle Lauenau is built by the Welfs as a stronghold against the counts of Schaumburg.
- In 1536 Lauenau becomes market town by the Count of Schaumburg.
