Qoute: "So most Latvians speak Russian as a second or _first_ language" - aren't the people who spoke russian as the first language called "Russians" ? Individual does not become Latvian just because he/she got citizenship.

I can fathom how one can be ethnically Latvian and yet learn Russian as their first language. I don't suppose it's common these days, but I see how it can happen. --Joy [shallot]

If your family is latvian, but they speaks in other language at home you learn learn that other language as first language not your native language, that in fact is consired to be one of the reasons why livonian language died -- Xil/talk

This sentence Latvians and Lithuanians are the only surviving members of the Baltic peoples and languages of the Indo-European family. IMO should be changed someway - a person who don`t know what is indo-europian language family could think that balts are only members of indo-europian family, but they are only speakers of baltic languages -- Xil/talk

Needs a lot of work, the Finns did not settle among the Latvians! --PÄ“ters 17:02, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
