Latin Grammy Awards of 2001
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The second annual Latin Grammy awards were awarded in a press conference on October 30, 2001, with host of the aborted telecast Jimmy Smits and Paul Rodriguez announcing the winners in a non-televised press conference at the Conga Room Club in Los Angeles, California.
The awards were to have been presented in Miami, Florida with a CBS national telecast September 11, 2001, but the telecast was cancelled because of terrorist attacks that morning in New York City, Arlington, Virginia, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences looked into appropriate alternate dates and venues to stage the telecast, but because many nominees do not reside in the United States, a full show was impossible, and cancelled the televast outright. Smits had been assigned to host the Latin Grammys, and was asked to host the press conference.
