Las Vegas Convention Center

The Las Vegas Convention Center is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and is located in Clark County, Nevada. It is one of the largest Convention centers in the world. At the end of 2004, the center had 3.2 million square feet (297,000 m²) of space with over 2 million square feet (186,000 m²) of the space available as exhibit space.
At the end of 2004 Las Vegas had about 9 million square feet (836,000 m²) of exhibit and meeting space available.
The Las Vegas Convention Center is adjacent to the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel and is a stop on the Las Vegas Monorail.

City and county community leaders also realized in the 1950s the need for a Las Vegas convention facility. The initial goal was to fill hotel rooms with conventioneers during slack tourist months.
A site was chosen one block east of the Las Vegas Strip and a 6,300-seat, silver-domed rotunda with an adjoining 90,000-square- foot exhibit hall opened in April 1959 on the site of the current Las Vegas Convention Center.
The silver dome was demolished in 1990 to make room for convention center expansion to a 1.6-million-square-foot facility of which 1.3 million square feet is exhibit space. It is currently one of the largest single-level facilities in the world.
The 1998 expansion brought available space to 1.9 million square feet (177,000 m²). One of the most spectacular highlights of this project was the implosion of the Landmark Hotel and Casino. It was then replaced with the convention center parking lot.
The 2004 expansion, started in 2002, added 1.3 million square feet (121,000 m²) of space in a new building called the South Hall. This expansion is across Desert Inn Road from the other space. Four bridges over Desert Inn Road connect the facilities.

The Las Vegas Convention Center is about to undergo a $737 million expansion, the 10th in the center's history. The expansion is intended to increase the center's meeting space and improve the building's overall design.
The 500,000 square foot Expansion includes 145,000 square feet of dedicated meeting space and a ballroom measuring about 100,000 square feet.
The project also includes:
- A lobby along the length of the South Hall
- A grand concourse to tie together the center's three halls
- A signature facade in front of the building.
- An enclosed connector from the monorail station
- A Police/Fire facility

The CONEXPO-CON/AGG construction trade show in 2005 used the most space, 1.88 million square feet.
Comdex was the most attended trade show with over 200,000 attendees on several occasions.
CES is currently the most attended trade show with over 150,000 attendees.
