Las Chicas Del Can is a famous and extremely successful all-female merengue group from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Created in 1982, they performed hit after hit throughout the Eighties, and a number of their singles or albums soared to golden or platinum status. Numbers such as el Negro No Puede, Sukaina, Culeca, Ta'Pillao, Fuego, at Lo Doy, and Amigo Travieso are now considered "classics" of merengue music.

Lead singer Belkis Concepcion went solo in 1985, and singers Miriam Cruz (the uncrowned queen of the Merengue) and Eunice Betances got vocal support from—among others—Luchy Betances (little sister of) and Veronica Medina who also went solo.

As from 1993, the orchestra goes further under the name Miriam y read Chicas. Of this formative year, still the same a successful album comes from entitled Nueva Vida with on this by Juan luis Guerra hit written at Propongo. Also the number drawer Loba became a hit and was well received merengue fans. A European tour follows year still the same. In 1994, a large hit was scored with the song Con Agua the Sal. In 1995, a new European tour followed which was very successful.

Meanwhile becomes by a manager who ' read the name already Chicas Del Can ' rapidly a number of new little girls would have let fix at each other gezocht who would make furore also under this name. The new lead singers are now Michell Flores, Adalgisa Baez and Florangel del Villar. There large hits were also now scored: "Voy Pa'Lla", "Hacer ell Amor Con Otro", "Celoso, Explosivo" and "Sin Compromiso" (1993).

In 1998, after albums still two (Botando Chispas (1994) and Derramando Suenos (1996)) to have made, fall this second formatie from each other and go lead singer Michell Flores solo.

A new formation is again set up with new little girls but this time succeeds it not to equal the large successes of the earlier formaties.

The first formation read Chicas Del Can (with frontladies Miriam Cruz, Eunice Betances and Theresa Dominguez) proves nevertheless be after all those years strongest and is eventually the some which have survived.
