Talk:Larry Flynt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Picture Please!
He has a lovely face.
-
- someone asked if it was true if Flynt had raped a chicken. He writes about it in his autobiography and he wrote up a "how to" article for Hustler Magazine. I did add the info that documents this in links at the bottom of the page and you can read more as well as see the racist, pedophilic, anti-semitic and homophobic cartoons and images in his publication in those links as well.

the linking to these porn sites have nothing to do with larry flynt other than just being porn sites. wikipedia isn't a place for advertising; what's the deal?

- Do not remove these sites. They are specifically about Larry Flynt and they are not spam. Thank you.

[edit] The chicken
Currently the article goes into great detail about Flynt's relations with a chicken. The graphic description provided by User:Hosadmin has been shortened twice, but then brought back both times by Hosadmin. Since I don't really feel like getting in a revert war over chicken rape tonight I'm posting the issue here so it can be discussed and refined.
Hosadmin's original version is: "According to Flynt's autobiography, he first had sex with a chicken. He'd heard from older boys that a chicken's egg bag was just as hot as a girl's pussy. Grabbing one of his grandmother's hens, he stuck his penis into its egg bag, and banged away. When he let the chicken go, it staggered away squawking and bleeding. Fearing that someone might ask questions, Larry caught the bird, wrung its neck and threw it in the river."
I'm hoping it can be shortened to something like: "According to Flynt's autobiography, he first had sex with a chicken. He'd heard from older boys that sex with with chicken was similar in sensation to sexual intercourse with a woman. He proceeded to rape one of his grandmother's chickens, killing it afterwards to avoid any suspicion."
Does this seem reasonable? --TheMidnighters 04:17, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- My original post had used his own wording and I didn't want to rephrase it but this is better for Wiki's tone, I admit. yep is reasonable. thanks. Hosadmin
[edit] Warning Labels
It is my understanding that warning labels referring to an articles content are against wikipedia NPOV stance. I have removed both the one at the top of the page and the one in his biography. Autopilots 20:54, September 12, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Lawsuit and shooting
During a legal battle related to obscenity in Gwinnett County, Georgia on March 6, 1978, he and his lawyer Gene Reeves Jr were shot outside the county courthouse in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The white supremacist Joseph Paul Franklin confessed to the shooting while serving life in prison for a separate crime; he said he was outraged by an interracial photo shoot in Hustler. Franklin was never brought to trial because Flynt and his lawyer said they didn't want to press charges of aggravated assault against a man already serving six life sentences for murder. Flynt later told Althea, his wife at the time, that he thought the CIA shot him. But some inside the porn industry knew the Mob was angry that Flynt had been distributing his own magazine and decided to send him a serious message. Flynt's injuries left him paralyzed from the waist down. The injury caused him intense constant pain and Flynt was addicted to painkillers until multiple surgeries deadened the affected nerves.
- OK. This paragraph starts out OK, but the second half of it seems a little far-fetched and somewhat ambiguous. Does it mean that the mob was sending Flynt a message by shooting him, and that Franklin confessed spuriously, or is that just nonsense written by some random user?--Vercalos 02:29, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
-
- Yeah, it appears the part about Franklin was just added after everything else. It makes it sound like Franklin confessed or was known as the shooter immediately too, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't until many years later that he came forward. Naming him as the shooting and then going on about just one theory at the time (I imagine there were more) also doesn't make sense. I guess you could put the part about his injuries after the "Georgia" line and then keep the Franklin part (which could be changed to "The white supremacist Joseph Paul Franklin LATER confessed..."), and remove the "Flynt later told Althea" part, that way it's all easy.
[edit] Jessica Lynch
As of current revision, too much about her... mostly irrelevant to readers curious about Mr Flynt himself. Please shorten the reference... and stop holding debates about USA politics here. Not dignified. elpincha 20:07, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Moved here.

[edit] Falwell v. Flynt
I think this section should include Flynt's countersuit of Falwell for illegally distributing copyrighted material (the depiction of Falwell and his mother) to raise money for the suit without Flynt's expressed permission.
[edit] Assassination Attempt
How is there no information on his assassination attempt? I know very little about Larry Flynt, but I would think this would be one of the more important events in his life. Flannel 00:27, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

(moved to bottom of page - Nortelrye 08:01, 24 April 2006 (UTC))
Did Flynt really disown his daughter? Seems to me more like she disowned him.
--Cgranade 04:59, Apr 8, 2004 (UTC)
He ownly disowned her in the wonderful world of Wikipedia where, a liberal democrat can do no wrong and a Christian is always the bad guy.
BTW, I took out this gratiutious cheap shot against the daugher:
"She also wrote that Jesus spoke to her from a cross on a mountainside in the Catskill Mountains, New York."
All you liberal editors protestations to the contrary, the SOLE purpose for including this is to make the daughter look like a NUT and to invoke more sympathy for her dad. Big Daddy 17:37, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
Unrelated to the subject but you please stop using the word liberal in these cases. I know (i'm going to assume your from the USA) that in your country there are anti-smoking, nazi, 'we know whats best for everyone', liberals, that completely contradict the meaning of the political stance they say they believe in. But there are alot of people that actually believe in proper social freedom. I for one am not going to go out of my way to make someone look like an idiot soley because they are christian, even though i think the concept of religion is a bit of a farse, because it's fucking stupid and falsefying and spinning information gives too many left-wing causes a bad name in the first places (like how michael moore can take very revelvant information and turn it into propaganda).--AnRK 13:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
"The company did not expand beyond pornography until 1986, but currently the majority of LFPs output is more mainstream."
Is this really true? If so, we ought to point to what his mainstream businesses are. Myself, I think it is not true. But I have no evidence, so for today I just raise the question.
-
- With a few exceptions the only reason Flynt's output is more mainstream is because he's made pornography more mainstream!
Yes they have many mainstream magazines - even skateboard magazines.
I would of thought more people buy pornos then skateboarding magazines--AnRK 13:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Flynt is now a Democrat, and ran for governor of California as a Democrat, but was a Republican in 1984 when he ran against Reagan as the only GOP challenger
-
- Forget Republidemocrat stuff. Flynt is money, power, hate and dirty sex.
-
- Hate and dirty sex? Why bother sympathising with anti-war causes then? I'm sure he doesn't really need any more publicity. You seem to be attacking him because you have some narrowminded hatred of ponography (not that it can't be a very vile, violent, exploitative industry)--AnRK 13:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unsourced Claims & Original Research? (was: World Series of Poker)
I could find no source for the statement that Flynt was banned from the tournament for life, merely that he finished in 8th place. Additionally, the original paragraph set forth by 69.197.254.56 contained some original research, which was what prompted me to take a look at the paragraph to begin with. I'll reprint it here for reference's sake:
In 2000 Flynt was banned from the World Series of Poker for life after making the final table in a seven card stud event and offering players money (more then they would win if they won the tournament) if they dumped chips to him thus making him the seven card stud champ that year. The title of champion was apparently worth a lot more to Flynt then 200k in prize money. Jack Binion apparently got wind of this and banned Larry for life. Flynt wound up finishing in 8th place.
Really, this seems to be just one in a series of unsourced and unverifiable claims made in this article. It could really use a bit of work and some more citations. Nortelrye 07:08, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- How about listing specifc items you'd like verified or removed to justify the original research template placed on the article? --TM 08:24, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough. The World Series of Poker paragraph was the first one, and I decided to be bold and remove it. The second one is this paragraph:
He published a magazine about the results, entitled The Flynt Report. His investigations eventually led to the resignation of incoming House speaker Bob Livingston.
- Thirdly, this paragraph:
He also accused Congressman Bob Barr of having committed perjury when testifying about his wife's abortion."

- I agree, it's just good to have specifics. We can try looking/waiting for sources for a bit, then remove the material if nothing substantial arises; or you can even remove them now, and ask that sources be provided before they are included again.
- You're right, I should have been more specific before I slapped the OR template at the top of the article. I'll try not to be so rash in the future. I see nothing wrong with leaving the claims in the article, as long as its clear that they may be Original Research, which the article's Talk now points out. Nortelrye 08:01, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Synpathy for Larry Flint
Somewhat off topic, I understand. I was shocked to find out the terrible past of Larry Flynt, especially the chicken and the disowning of his well-intentioned daughter. I pray for Mr. Flynt's well-being, but understand that he is not a good person and has commited countless atrocities and said comments of a distonctly antihomosexual, female-subjectifying, and even antisemetic nature (if the third one can be confirmed).
A man that can make liberals and conservatives cringe all in one go.
- Only somewhat off topic? You have a gift for understatement, friend! Kasreyn 04:49, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Larry H. Parker
This article claims that Richard Parker, a fan of Flynt, named his child (well-known attorney) Larry H. Parker after him. Yet Larry H. Parker does not seem to fall in the proper age group for this claim. How old is he in relation to Flynt?
[edit] Picture of Althea
Hi,
I'm new to Wikipedia, and I don't know what is considered copyrighted or what isn't. I uploaded pictures taken from an TV interview for another page and they were deleted because they said it was copyrighted material, however I've seen many pictures coming from TV on other pages and they are not getting deleted.
I have a old Hustler magazine from 1979 where there is a headshot (picture) of Althea Leisure, I could scan it and post it here, but would it be considered copyrighted material? I also have a picture of Larry and Althea together when they met in 1971, I don't know where it's from...
Thanks
- There shouldn't have been a problem with the other images if you included the fact that it was a screenshot off TV. Did you select the correct format information when you uploaded it or just leave it blank? --TM 17:33, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
I entered the informations as requested, in the "|Source=" field I entered that it was a picture ripped of a TV interview I took from a DVD I own, but I left the "|Permission=" field blank. That picture was taken from a DVD yet it isn't getting deleted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AnnMargrock.jpg The problem might be that I didn't know what type of licensing enter so I choose "GFDL content created by the uploader" in the drop list... The picture of Althea that I want to upload was published in a magazine in the early eighties, what type of licensing can I choose for that?
Thanks
- UPDATE: I uploaded the picture and set the license info to TV-SCREENSHOT, it seem to me that it's fait use of the copyright but the image is tagged for speedy deleting, can someone clue me as of what to do to untag it thanks 70.55.113.81 17:19, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[...]and although my sexual behavior has ranged over the years from the bizarre to the heroic, only one of my early experiences could actually be considered "deviant". This was the occasion when, at the age of nine, I had sex with a chicken. Yes, this is what the old preachers called bestiality. In the hollows of eastern Kentucky, it wasn't at all unusual. Sexual relations with animals-particularly cows, sheeps, and horses-were common. Some of the older boys in the area told me that a chicken was as good as a girl-that it's egg bag was "hot as a girl's pussy" and "chicken wiggled around a lot more". In fact they added, it was better in some ways because you could just grab the first chicken that came by-no wooing, no waiting. Anxious to experiment, I caught one of my grandmother's hens out behind the barn, managed to insert my penis into it's egg bag, and thrust away. When I let the chicken go, it started toward the main house, staggering, squawking, and bleeding. Fearing that my grandmother would see the hen and want to know what happened, I caught it and wrung its neck, then I threw the bird in the creek. I decided that I liked the girls better. 70.55.113.81 17:07, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
