Larry Hryb, known by the pseudonym Major Nelson, is the Director of Programming for Xbox Live, the popular Microsoft gaming network. His popular blog Xbox Live's Major Nelson provides an "inside" look at operations at Microsoft's Xbox division; in particular, he discusses the online features and functionality first and foremost. He also discusses recent games and other news that interests him. Additionally, he conducts interviews with people involved with the Xbox 360 at Microsoft, and developers of games for the Xbox 360. He also produces a weekly podcast named Major Nelson Radio with such news in it. His show regularly hosts interviews with people in the gaming community, and offers prizes (generally a Major Nelson branded Xbox Live headset to listeners through his 'Name the Game' contest, where he plays a short audio clip from a game, and a winner is drawn from the correct entries). On Monday, November 06, 2006, he celebrated his 200th podcast, which was marked with a nearly two and a half hour show. He clearly enjoys the Xbox 360, as well as the Nintendo DS, and is a keen advocate of nearly all technological gadgets. In 2006, Hryb was voted one of Top 25 People of the Year in videogaming.
Hryb is a graduate of Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and has worked for over 15-years in professional broadcasting.[citation needed]
