Larache

Larache (also Laraish, El Araish العرائش) is a port city located in northern Morocco on the Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 107,371 (2004 census). Nearby are the ruins of Lixus, a Phoenician settlement that later became a Roman colony. Larache was owned by Spain from 1610-1689 and between 1912 and 1956 under the Spanish protectorate of Northern Morocco.
