LAOTSE (Links to Asia by Organizing Traineeship and Student Exchange) is an international network of leading universities in Europe and Asia. Established during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) University Dialogue held in Kuala Lumpur on March 18, 1998. Participating universities includes universities from China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Republic of Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
The network is named after Laotse (pinyin: Lǎo Zi; Chinese: 老子; Wade-Giles: Lao-tz'u), a famous Taoist Chinese philosopher who is believed to have lived in approximately the 4th century BC.
