Lanyon Market Place
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lanyon Market Place is the main shopping centre for the suburbs of Conder, Gordon, Banks and the surrounding region, including the township of Tharwa, within Canberra, Australia.
Although not as large as the next nearest major shopping centre (the Tuggeranong Hyperdome in Greenway), Lanyon Market Place provides many types of retail outlets and facilities.
Shops currently (as of November 2006) open at the Lanyon Market Place include Woolworths Supermarket, Woolworths (formerly Mac's) Liquor, Aldi's Supermarket, Michel's Patisserie, Subway, Lanyon Take Away, Lanyon Newsagency, ACT-TAB, Toy Kingdom, Rockmans, Bakers Delight, Lanyon Valley Meats, Australian Pharmacy, McDonalds, Video Ezy, salon Surachi, Domino's Pizza, Lanyon Real Estate and a Centrelink office. There are other shops also open or under development. (See below for complete list)
As of 2005, the Market Place is made of four main buildings with plans allowing for several more in the future.
In addition to the main shops, a Woolworths petrol station which was formally a Caltex Petrol Station is across the road.
The shopping precinct also provides a playgroup and community centre while a Medical Centre is nearby at Gordon Shops.
In addition to Lanyon Market Place, Banks and Gordon have smaller local shops. The supermarkets at these shops are sometimes open on Christmas Day unlike the Market Place.
